Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic responsible for fabricating, assembling, repairing, and installing sheet metal structures and components on general aviation aircraft.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of diversified aviation sheet metal experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport security badge through the local airport authority.

  • Knowledge of aircraft structure repair manuals.

  • Familiarity with FAA AC 43.13-1B.

  • Ability to identify types of corrosion on aircraft structures.

  • Skilled in corrosion removal procedures.

  • Skilled in application and removal of wash etch and Alodine materials and application of primers.

  • Ability to identify rivets, bolts, screws, nuts, and washers.

  • Ability to lay out sheet metal parts using blueprints, drawings, and written or verbal instructions.

  • Ability to alter existing parts using blueprints, drawings, and written or verbal instructions.

  • Proficiency in rivet and sheet metal component removal.

  • Ability to bend and form radii on fabricated sheet metal parts.

  • Ability to drill various metals, debur holes and cut lines.

  • Ability to set up for and perform countersinking and dimpling of holes.

  • Ability to set up for and install solid rivets with rivet gun and squeeze tools, and install blind rivets and fasteners.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.

  • Experience shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammers and forming tools.

  • Experience using soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts.

  • Experience inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams, joints, and burred surfaces.

Job Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment for general aviation aircraft.

  • Set up and operate fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.

  • Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using appropriate hand and shop tools.

  • Use soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts and assemblies as required.

  • Lay out, drill, debur, countersink, and dimple holes according to drawings and specifications.

  • Install solid and blind rivets and fasteners using rivet guns, squeeze tools, and related equipment.

  • Remove and replace rivets, fasteners, and sheet metal components as required for repair or modification.

  • Perform corrosion identification, removal, and treatment, including wash etch, Alodine, and primer application.

  • Inspect seams, joints, and finished surfaces, smoothing and correcting defects to meet quality standards.



Pay Details: $24.00 to $33.00 per hour
