Senior Technical Writer
Senior Technical Writer responsible for creating and maintaining complex technical documentation and IETMs for defense industry systems and equipment.
Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience plus 5+ years of related experience.

Defense industry technical writing experience.

Mechanical/electrical/operator technical writer experience or equivalent engineering-focused documentation background.

Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations sufficient to write technical documentation.

Ability to understand complex engineering designs, analyze and interpret engineering drawings and terminology, and translate into clear technical documentation for non-engineers.

Experience creating and revising complex technical documentation (operations, maintenance, repair, fault isolation, IPB, etc.).

Experience with XML authoring tools (e.g., Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen).

Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access a plus).

Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional (or similar PDF markup tools) for illustration and document markups.

Working knowledge of state-of-the-art publication/page production software and IETM functionality and development processes.

Familiarity with relevant military and commercial documentation standards.
Preferred Skills

Experience with validation/verification and on-vehicle/manual validation activities.

Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) for technical content.

Knowledge of interactive electronic technical manual functionality, development processes, and related markup languages.

Experience with defense-industry mechanical and electrical systems, including system-level operations and maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
-
Create and revise complex technical documentation to support marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of products.
-
Ensure documents conform to company, customer, and government standards, specifications, and language usage principles.

Develop technical content using modern publishing tools, including product descriptions, functional descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation, maintenance/repair procedures, IPBs, and other technical documents.

Ensure compliance with customer requirements, government specifications, engineering standards, and applicable language and formatting requirements.

Research and consult with engineering staff on systems and equipment to create and update technical documentation.

Analyze and interpret engineering drawings and technical data, translating them into clear and accurate documentation.

Evaluate illustrations and graphics, request creation or modification of graphics, and integrate visuals effectively into documents.

Assist in evaluating project requirements by providing time and cost estimates for documentation tasks.

Participate in reviews and validation activities (onsite and offsite) for assigned technical writing projects.

Provide input to the overall design, format, and style of technical documentation sets.

Lead small or portions of larger technical writing assignments as required.

Perform or participate in unit and/or system testing of IETMs where applicable.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, practices, tools, and applications related to technical documentation and IETMs.

Pay Details: $29.00 to $39.00 per hour
