Technical Writer responsible for creating and revising complex technical documentation and manuals for defense and automotive-related systems and equipment.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience plus 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Defense industry and/or automotive industry technical writing experience.

  • Mechanical/Electrical/Operator technical writer experience or equivalent knowledge, preferably in the defense industry.

  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations sufficient to write technical documentation.

  • Ability to understand engineering designs and translate them into clear, accurate documentation for non-engineers.

  • Working knowledge of publication/page production software.

  • XML authoring tool experience (e.g., Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen).

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access a plus).

  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar PDF markup tools.

  • Ability to write technical documentation of limited to moderate scope and complexity and deliver on schedule.

  • Ability to work with a diverse team across multiple physical locations.

Preferred Skills

  • Validation/verification and on-vehicle/manual validation experience.

  • Content Management System (CMS) experience.

  • Basic understanding of interactive electronic technical manual (IETM) functionality, development processes, and markup languages.

  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial documentation standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and revise complex technical documentation to support marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of products.

  • Ensure documents conform to company and government standards, customer requirements, engineering specifications, and language usage principles.

  • Develop technical content using modern publishing tools, including product descriptions, functional descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation, maintenance/repair procedures, IPBs, reports, proposals, and marketing literature.

  • Research and consult with engineering staff on systems and equipment to create and update technical documentation.

  • Analyze and interpret engineering drawings and technical data and translate into clear technical documentation.

  • Evaluate illustrations and graphics, request new or revised graphics, and integrate visuals effectively into documentation.

  • Assist project writers with validating written procedures for equipment when required.

  • Contribute input to time and cost estimates for documentation tasks.

  • Provide input to overall format and style for technical documentation sets.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, practices, tools, and applications related to technical documentation.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety objectives and policies.



Pay Details: $24.00 to $33.00 per hour
