Production Operator / Wheel Maker role building bonded abrasive grinding wheels and segments from raw materials through final finishing and inspection.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, machining, assembly, or warehouse operations

  • Ability to read basic drawings, work instructions, and production travelers

  • Ability to use measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges

  • Ability to stand, walk, and handle materials/equipment for extended periods

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to approximately 50 lbs using carts, hoists, and assistive devices as required

  • Ability to work around moving machinery, heat (ovens/kilns), resins/chemicals, and fine particulate while using required PPE and ventilation controls

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience mixing raw materials and operating production mixers

  • Experience operating hydraulic or automatic presses

  • Experience operating ovens, kilns, or other thermal processing equipment

  • Experience with machining or grinding internal diameters (ID), outer diameters (OD), and profiles

  • Experience in bonded abrasives, ceramics, or similar materials processing environments

Job Responsibilities:

  • Stage abrasive grains, bonds, fillers, and pigments per product recipes; weigh and mix materials to defined ratios for consistent wheel structure and performance

  • Maintain batch records, lot traceability, and cleanliness of mixers and staging areas

  • Load mixed material into molds and operate presses to compact wheels to specified dimensions and densities

  • Handle green wheels, transfer to carts or racks, and prepare for drying or firing

  • Set and monitor ovens/kilns for drying, curing, and firing cycles according to defined schedules; document time and temperature parameters

  • Perform post-cure checks on wheels to ensure proper cure and absence of warpage

  • Machine and finish bores to required ID; grind OD to final size; profile specialty geometries using dressing and profiling equipment

  • Mount, dress, and true wheels as needed to achieve required surface quality and balance

  • Conduct dimensional and visual inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges; verify grade, structure, balance, and surface integrity; segregate nonconforming product

  • Follow safety standards for bonded abrasives, including handling, storage, and ring testing where applicable

  • Follow PPE, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safe lifting protocols while maintaining a clean, organized workstation

  • Perform routine checks on presses, ovens, grinders, mixers, and related equipment and report maintenance issues

  • Contribute to improvements in yield, throughput, and quality through adherence to procedures and feedback on process performance

Pay: 17-18

Pay Details: $17.00 to $18.00 per hour
