Leads crews performing shipboard tank, void, and bilge cleaning/pumping operations and prepares spaces for gas-free certification across multiple concurrent projects.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in tank/void/bilge cleaning or industrial sanitation

  • Crew lead/foreman experience managing field operations

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to traverse ladderwells, tight compartments, tanks/voids, and work at heights >4'

  • Ability to enter confined spaces, wear required PPE/respirator, and lift 50+ lb

  • Basic math competency for measurements, dilution, and volume calculations

  • Ability to read work packages, drawings, SDS, and technical procedures

  • Working knowledge of pumps, hoses, manifolds, vacuum systems, and dewatering equipment

  • English reading/writing/speaking comprehension

Preferred Skills

  • Confined Space Entry/Rescue and Gas Free testing support training

  • OSHA 29 CFR 1915 (Shipyard) and HAZWOPER 40-hr certifications

  • Experience with Navy ship environments and pier services; DBIDS/TWIC

  • Fuel/oil transfer experience (e.g., JP-5, DFM), oily waste, greywater/blackwater handling

  • Use of multi-gas meters (O?, LEL, H?S) and ventilation/purging equipment

  • Spill response, waste segregation, and manifesting; forklift/manlift certification

  • CDL with tanker/vacuum endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Perform bilge maintenance cleaning/pumping, general pumping operations, and tank/void cleaning per procedures

  • Prepare spaces for gas-free certification (isolation, purge/ventilation setup, access control, testing support)

  • Set up, operate, monitor, and break down pumps, hoses, manifolds, vacuum systems, and containment/berm equipment

  • Pump, transfer, and document fluids including fresh/potable water, seawater/chilled water, oily waste, oil, fuels (JP-5, DFM or equivalent), greywater, blackwater, and neutralized chlorine water

  • Execute pier services and compartment/space housekeeping to specification

  • Segregate wastes; sample, label, and complete required documentation and chain-of-custody

  • Complete job safety analyses, permits (e.g., confined space), logs, and volume/accounting records

  • Coordinate crew assignments and schedules across multiple projects; verify cleanliness and acceptance criteria; perform job closeout

  • Adhere to lockout/tagout, confined space, spill prevention, and environmental compliance requirements



Pay Details: $18.00 to $24.00 per hour
