Mechanical Design Engineer Heavy Equipment Structures and Components
Design and evaluate complex mechanical and structural systems for heavy equipment, ensuring compliance with industry codes and supporting production through detailed engineering processes.


Job Requirements:

  • Accredited engineering degree in mechanical or structural engineering

  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical or structural design engineering

  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks

  • Knowledge of mechanical part production including machining, welding, forming, casting, and forging

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and structural connections (bolted, pinned, welded)

  • Experience interpreting and applying industry codes and standards (AWS D14.1, D1.1)

  • Skilled in 3D modeling environments; 2D design experience a plus

  • Working knowledge of bill-of-materials (BOM) management and ERP systems

  • Experience handling engineering change notices (ECN) and structured release processes

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications


Preferred Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical/structural engineering

  • Proven leadership in managing multiple projects and teams

  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight


Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical and structural designs

  • Evaluate systems such as winches, motors, gearboxes, enclosures, and operator cabs

  • Analyze tolerance stack-ups and recommend class fits for manufacturing

  • Prepare detailed component/system drawings with proper annotations and standards

  • Review and perform engineering calculations to support design decisions

  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, vendors, and contractors

  • Participate in technical meetings and report project updates to the Chief Engineer

  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations

  • Complete assigned special projects and departmental initiatives



Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $120,000.00 per year
