Lead Lathe Programmer / Set-Up Machinist
Programs, sets up, validates, and optimizes CNC lathes to produce precision components that meet drawing and customer specifications.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 10 years of CNC machining experience or State Journeyman certification
- Advanced CNC lathe programming and setup experience
- Proficiency with Esprit 3D CAD/CAM programming software
- Knowledge of Fanuc controls and programming
- Ability to independently set up CNC lathes from completed CNC programs
- Advanced blueprint, sketch, drawing, manual, and specification interpretation
- Knowledge of dimensional tolerances and machining requirements
- Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection instruments
- Experience completing first-article inspections
- Knowledge of workholding, cutting tools, attachments, feeds, speeds, offsets, and tool-life optimization
- Ability to perform machining calculations and basic shop mathematics
Preferred Skills
- State Journeyman Machinist certification
- Experience serving as a technical lead within a CNC machining department
- Experience training CNC operators and setup personnel
- Experience optimizing CNC programs for cycle time, consistency, and tooling utilization
- Experience troubleshooting CNC lathe production and quality issues
- Knowledge of first-article inspection reporting requirements
Job Responsibilities
- Program CNC lathes using Esprit software
- Develop machining programs that meet drawing, tolerance, and customer requirements
- Set up CNC lathes independently from CNC programs
- Select, align, and secure workholding devices, cutting tools, and attachments
- Establish tooling, offsets, feeds, speeds, and machining parameters
- Optimize programs and setups to maximize machine capability, tool life, and process consistency
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts
- Measure machined components using precision inspection instruments
- Verify dimensions and tolerances against engineering drawings
- Complete first-article inspection reports and submit documentation for approval
- Run new setups for a minimum of one hour to verify production stability
- Monitor CNC lathe operations for machine, tooling, production, and quality issues
- Correct programming, setup, tooling, and dimensional problems
- Coordinate unresolved production issues with manufacturing leadership
- Train operators on newly established machining processes and setups
- Provide technical guidance to CNC department personnel
- Support machining problem-solving and process-improvement activities
- Maintain CNC lathes in operating condition
- Follow applicable machine safety procedures and regulations
- Maintain organized CNC machines, tooling, and work areas
Pay Details: $35.00 to $45.00 per hour
