Develop, assemble, align, test, deploy, and support advanced optical systems for aerospace and space applications.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience assembling and aligning complex optical systems in a laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of optical theory and applied optical principles
  • Experience designing and laying out optical systems using Zemax
  • Experience building optical systems and instrumentation to engineering requirements and specifications
  • Experience documenting optical alignment and test results at the component, subsystem, and system levels
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% in support of system deployment and customer activities
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, or a related discipline
  • Experience with adaptive optics systems
  • Experience assembling and aligning optical breadboards
  • Laser communications system experience
  • Experience with benchtop or field-deployed laser systems
  • Experience using autocollimators, alignment telescopes, and interferometers
  • Experience analyzing wavefront error, stray light, and tolerance sensitivity
  • Experience with optical component selection and vendor evaluation
  • Active U.S. security clearance

Job Responsibilities

  • Build optical systems and related instrumentation according to technical requirements and specifications
  • Assemble, align, integrate, and test optical components, subsystems, and complete systems
  • Perform optical system analysis using Zemax or comparable optical engineering software
  • Evaluate wavefront error, stray light, alignment sensitivity, and optical tolerances
  • Compare analysis and test results against system-level requirements
  • Develop and document optical alignment, integration, and test procedures
  • Record component, subsystem, and system test results
  • Support the full product development cycle from concept and requirements through deployment
  • Commission operational optical systems at customer locations
  • Perform field support, system upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Develop design documentation, operating specifications, test reports, and technical briefings
  • Update manufacturing procedures and technical support documentation
  • Identify and evaluate optical components through technical research and vendor coordination
  • Support technical presentations, project reviews, and customer meetings


Pay Details: $100,000.00 to $130,000.00 per year
