External Loads Engineer responsible for aircraft loads analysis, structural design criteria development, finite element modeling, and validation support for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of structural engineering experience developing aircraft loads, or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of related experience

  • Experience developing aircraft external and inertial loads

  • Experience with finite element modeling and analysis

  • Experience using MSC Nastran or similar finite element analysis software

  • Experience with MATLAB or another scripting language such as Visual Basic, Perl, or Python

  • Knowledge of military and/or commercial aircraft certification requirements

  • Ground test loads experience

  • Flight test loads experience

  • Experience generating mass properties and inertia data

  • Experience compiling aerodynamic, dynamic, mass properties, and aircraft state data

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Ability to travel as required

  • Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and overtime as required

Preferred Skills

  • MSC PATRAN experience

  • FEMAP experience

  • Linux or Unix operating system experience

  • Experience developing combined aircraft load cases

  • Experience executing structural loads simulation tools

  • Experience processing and assimilating large engineering datasets

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform external loads analysis for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft

  • Generate mass properties data, inertias, and finite element models to determine inertial loads

  • Compile aerodynamic, mass properties, dynamics, and aircraft state data

  • Develop combined load cases for distribution to airframe structural models

  • Establish structural design criteria and supporting documentation

  • Generate free-body diagrams

  • Determine reaction forces

  • Develop shear and moment diagrams

  • Execute simulation and finite element analysis tools

  • Process and assimilate loads analysis data

  • Identify and down-select critical structural loading conditions

  • Support ground and flight loads validation testing

  • Develop and maintain loads analysis documentation

  • Coordinate loads data with structural, aerodynamic, flight sciences, and other engineering disciplines



Pay Details: $40.00 to $60.00 per hour
