Commissioning Specialist
Electrical Commissioning Engineer responsible for commissioning, testing, validation, startup support, deficiency resolution, and documentation for building and industrial electrical systems.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in third-party owner commissioning or validation activities.
- Experience commissioning utility infrastructure, life safety systems, medium- and low-voltage electrical power systems, low-voltage systems, building systems, facility components, and facility operations and maintenance systems.
- Working knowledge of NFPA requirements.
- Working knowledge of NETA electrical testing requirements.
- Working knowledge of NICET-related electrical testing and code requirements.
- Understanding of construction and commissioning processes.
- Experience reviewing NETA reports, coordination studies, and equipment startup documentation.
- Experience executing Functional Performance Testing for electrical systems.
- Experience developing commissioning test protocols and technical reports.
- Industry-recognized CxA commissioning certification.
- Minimum 2–3 years of electrical building systems design experience.
Preferred Skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- LEED or other sustainability certification.
- Experience with industrial production and manufacturing projects.
- Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, BAS, and other building trade disciplines.
- Experience with cloud-based commissioning software such as Facility Grid.
- Experience with utility and facility infrastructure commissioning.
- Experience supporting commissioning closeout and turnover documentation.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and perform electrical commissioning activities.
- Perform commissioning QA/QC reviews.
- Execute Functional Performance Testing for electrical systems.
- Support equipment and system startup, testing, and verification.
- Verify installed systems against design documents, specifications, and commissioning requirements.
- Review NETA testing reports, coordination studies, startup forms, and related technical documentation.
- Identify and document system deficiencies and commissioning issues.
- Track commissioning deficiencies through resolution and verification.
- Develop testing procedures and commissioning protocols.
- Prepare commissioning reports, test results, and closeout documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, engineers, owners, and project teams.
- Support validation of medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, life safety systems, low-voltage systems, and facility infrastructure.
Pay Details: $41.00 to $55.00 per hour
