Sr. Electrical Engineer- High Speed Digital

Designs, brings up, tests, and delivers rugged circuit card assemblies for high-speed digital, embedded processing, communications, and power applications.

Job Requirements

• Proficiency with Cadence schematic capture
• Ability to navigate Cadence Allegro
• Direct ownership of circuit card assembly designs from concept through delivery
• Experience designing, building, bringing up, debugging, testing, and releasing circuit card assemblies
• Experience making margin-aware and long-lifecycle hardware design decisions
• Ability to document and explain electrical design decisions and SWaP-C tradeoffs
• Experience simulating circuits using SPICE or comparable tools
• Experience supporting component procurement, fabrication, and contract manufacturing
• Ability to select and qualify alternate electronic components
• Experience responding to technical questions from PCB fabricators and contract manufacturers
• Experience bringing up new circuit card assemblies from initial power-on
• Ability to isolate hardware faults from firmware and software issues
• Experience defining hardware rework and writing technician instructions
• Experience performing and documenting laboratory testing
• Experience using oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, thermal measurement equipment, and related electrical test tools
• Experience designing high-speed digital circuits using processors, FPGAs, or microcontrollers
• Experience with DDR memory, flash memory, and EEPROM devices
• Experience designing point-of-load power using switching and linear regulators

Preferred Skills

• Experience with PCIe, USB, Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, serial communications, LVDS, DisplayPort, or HDMI
• Experience creating PCB layouts and fabrication drawings in Allegro
• Experience designing ruggedized cables and cable drawings
• Experience developing drawing notes and production documentation for rugged hardware
• Knowledge of VHDL or Verilog
• Experience mentoring electrical engineers or leading technical tasks
• Experience designing hardware for long service life, harsh environments, or limited-maintenance applications
• Experience supporting production transition and sustaining engineering activities

Job Responsibilities

• Own circuit card assembly designs from requirements through production release
• Develop electrical schematics using Cadence tools
• Design high-speed digital, embedded processing, memory, communication-interface, and power circuits
• Select processors, FPGAs, microcontrollers, memory devices, interfaces, regulators, and supporting components
• Perform circuit simulations and design-margin analyses
• Evaluate size, weight, power, cost, reliability, and lifecycle tradeoffs
• Create design documentation and technical decision records
• Support PCB layout, stack-up, routing, fabrication, and assembly activities
• Review Allegro layouts and manufacturing drawings
• Answer technical questions from PCB fabricators, assemblers, and component suppliers
• Identify and approve component alternates
• Bring up new circuit card assemblies from scratch
• Troubleshoot power, signal-integrity, communication, component, and interface failures
• Distinguish hardware defects from firmware and software issues
• Develop and document rework instructions for technicians
• Perform functional, electrical, thermal, and environmental laboratory testing
• Capture and analyze oscilloscope, data-acquisition, and thermal test data
• Document test procedures, results, defects, and corrective actions
• Support production builds, hardware releases, and delivery milestones
• Develop rugged cable designs, drawings, and assembly notes when required
• Provide technical direction, mentoring, and task leadership for hardware development activities

Pay Details: $54.00 to $72.00 per hour
