Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical field

  • Minimum of 10 years of firmware development experience with real-time embedded systems

  • Experience leading a team of 2–4 firmware engineers

  • Proficiency in C and C++

  • Experience with Python

  • Experience with Verilog

  • Knowledge of FPGA and microprocessor architectures

  • Experience with embedded peripherals and communication protocols, including UART, SPI, CANopen, and EtherCAT

  • Experience with real-time operating systems

  • Experience using embedded development and diagnostic tools, including debuggers, emulators, and oscilloscopes

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and component datasheets

  • Experience designing, developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining embedded firmware

  • Experience integrating firmware with hardware and software systems

  • Experience using Jira and version-control platforms such as Bitbucket or Git

  • Ability to work onsite in Canton, Massachusetts

  • Firmware development experience within the motion-control industry

  • Experience with stepper motor systems

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the development of embedded firmware for motion-control products

  • Direct the daily technical activities of a team of 2–4 firmware engineers

  • Design firmware architectures for real-time embedded systems

  • Develop firmware using C, C++, Verilog, and Python

  • Define firmware requirements and technical specifications

  • Implement and optimize control algorithms for motors, servo systems, robotics, and related applications

  • Configure and support FPGA, microprocessor, peripheral, and communication interfaces

  • Develop firmware for UART, SPI, CANopen, EtherCAT, and related protocols

  • Integrate firmware with hardware, software, and application-level components

  • Conduct and oversee firmware testing, debugging, validation, and performance analysis

  • Diagnose firmware, hardware-interface, timing, and communication issues

  • Use debuggers, emulators, oscilloscopes, and related tools during development and troubleshooting

  • Review source code and verify adherence to established development standards

  • Maintain firmware source control, issue tracking, release records, and configuration management

  • Develop and maintain firmware architecture, design, implementation, and test documentation

  • Establish coding, testing, review, and documentation practices

  • Assign engineering tasks and monitor technical deliverables

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to firmware engineers

  • Coordinate firmware activities with hardware, software, and applications engineering teams

  • Support prototype development, product integration, and production release

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for system-level firmware and hardware issues

  • Identify and implement improvements to firmware development processes and tools

  • Evaluate embedded technologies, development tools, motion-control methods, and applicable industry standards

Pay: 155k-175k/ year
