Life Sciences Construction Project Manager

Summary: Leads complex advanced manufacturing and life sciences facility projects from preconstruction through commissioning, validation, and final turnover.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, construction management, or a related technical field

• Minimum of 10 years of project management experience in technology, life sciences, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical technology, or advanced manufacturing environments

• Experience managing large, technically complex construction or capital projects

• Experience with cleanroom construction, process systems, and critical manufacturing environments

• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, automation, and controls systems

• Experience integrating facility infrastructure with manufacturing processes and production equipment

• Experience working directly with owner engineering, facility operations, or manufacturing teams

• Experience managing project budgets, forecasts, schedules, contracts, and financial performance

• Experience coordinating design teams, subcontractors, equipment vendors, and technical stakeholders

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

• Ability to work from construction sites, regional offices, or corporate offices as assigned

• Ability to travel overnight for project and regional requirements

Preferred Skills

• Owner-side experience in facility engineering, capital projects, or manufacturing support

• Experience with semiconductor fabrication, pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology laboratories, or medical-device facilities

• Knowledge of FDA, GMP, ISO cleanroom, and related regulatory requirements

• Experience with commissioning, qualification, and validation

• Experience with factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing

• Experience with Lean construction and the Last Planner System

• Experience with cleanroom HVAC systems, pressure cascades, air-change requirements, and ISO classifications

• Experience with process piping, specialty gases, and critical utility systems

• Experience with electrical distribution, backup power, and system redundancy

• Experience with building automation systems, SCADA platforms, and controls integration

• Experience coordinating process equipment layouts, tool installation, and utility distribution

• Experience developing technical proposals, cost models, and constructability reviews

Job Responsibilities

• Lead large technology and life sciences projects from concept through design, construction, commissioning, validation, and turnover

• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and financial performance

• Oversee cleanroom, process utility, critical environment, and manufacturing facility construction

• Align facility design and construction requirements with client manufacturing processes

• Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, automation, controls, and process systems

• Manage project managers, engineers, field teams, trade partners, and equipment vendors

• Assign project responsibilities and review project team performance

• Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, forecasts, and cost reports

• Monitor project profitability, cash flow, commitments, change orders, and specialized system costs

• Serve as the primary project contact for owner engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams

• Define project requirements based on production processes, operational needs, and regulatory standards

• Coordinate process flows, contamination-control requirements, and operational-readiness planning

• Provide constructability reviews for process equipment layouts, tool installation, and utility routing

• Oversee the design and installation of cleanroom HVAC systems

• Coordinate process piping, specialty gas, exhaust, chemical, and critical utility systems

• Oversee electrical distribution, emergency power, backup power, and redundancy systems

• Coordinate building automation, SCADA, and equipment-control system integration

• Verify coordination between facility systems, process equipment, and production infrastructure

• Lead technical preconstruction, scope validation, cost modeling, and constructability activities

• Review engineering designs for performance, cost, installation requirements, and lifecycle reliability

• Lead value-engineering activities focused on system performance and operating costs

• Identify risks related to system integration, schedule, regulatory compliance, and commissioning

• Coordinate construction sequencing for equipment installation, startup, and production readiness

• Review subcontractor scopes, technical proposals, bids, schedules, and performance

• Monitor installation of high-density mechanical, electrical, process, and controls systems

• Resolve design conflicts, field coordination issues, and system interface requirements

• Support factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing

• Coordinate equipment startup, functional testing, commissioning, qualification, and validation activities

• Oversee punch-list completion, system turnover, and operational-readiness requirements

• Verify turnover documentation meets regulatory, operational, and maintenance requirements

• Manage quality-control processes for cleanrooms, process systems, and regulated environments

• Enforce safety requirements for chemical systems, electrical work, confined spaces, and other high-risk activities

• Develop project management staff through technical assignments and performance evaluation

• Build internal project-delivery capabilities for advanced manufacturing and cleanroom projects

• Lead technical content for proposals, presentations, and project interviews

• Support business development activities within advanced manufacturing and life sciences markets

• Maintain project relationships with clients, design firms, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers

• Participate in project management, preconstruction, Lean planning, and operational meetings

Pay: 140k-200k/ year

Pay Details: $140,000.00 to $200,000.00 per year
