Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Active Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain licensure through comity in the applicable jurisdiction
  • Minimum of 10 years of HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems design experience
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of mechanical design experience for hospitals, clinics, laboratories, or comparable healthcare facilities
  • Experience independently managing major mechanical design assignments from concept through construction documentation
  • Experience designing variable air volume systems
  • Experience designing variable refrigerant flow systems
  • Experience designing heat pump and rooftop unit systems
  • Experience designing hydronic heating and cooling systems
  • Experience developing plumbing layouts and specifications
  • Experience performing thermal load calculations
  • Knowledge of healthcare safety, infection-control, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk MEP tools, and Bluebeam
  • Experience preparing technical specifications and selecting mechanical equipment
  • Experience coordinating mechanical systems with architectural and multidisciplinary designs

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design for hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and healthcare facilities
  • Develop HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and fluid-distribution systems
  • Manage mechanical design projects from initial concept through final construction documents
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations
  • Design variable air volume, variable refrigerant flow, heat pump, and rooftop unit systems
  • Develop chilled-water, hot-water, condenser-water, and related hydronic piping systems
  • Prepare domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialty plumbing designs
  • Develop mechanical equipment schedules, system diagrams, plans, and construction details
  • Write technical specifications for HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical equipment
  • Select mechanical equipment based on capacity, energy performance, operating requirements, and project budget
  • Apply healthcare infection-control, life-safety, and regulatory requirements to mechanical designs
  • Coordinate mechanical layouts with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other design disciplines
  • Review designs for spatial conflicts, constructability, code compliance, and system performance
  • Produce and review drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk MEP applications
  • Review and mark up design and construction documents using Bluebeam
  • Support construction administration through submittal reviews, field observations, and technical responses
  • Provide technical direction to engineers, designers, and drafting personnel
  • Review calculations, drawings, specifications, and design documentation prepared by junior staff
  • Support client meetings, design reviews, and technical presentations
  • Maintain project design records, calculations, specifications, and engineering documentation


Pay Details: $100,000.00 to $110,000.00 per year
