Tooling Engineer role focused on metal casting tooling design, pattern and core box development, gating and riser systems, modeling, simulation, and process optimization.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a metal casting or manufacturing environment
  • Experience designing patterns, core boxes, and riser systems
  • Experience creating, updating, and managing engineering models and technical drawings
  • Modeling software proficiency
  • Ability to interpret blueprints
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards
  • Understanding of shop operations and tooling build practices
  • Experience supporting tooling trials, validation, inspections, and production readiness
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and internal operating standards

Preferred Skills

  • Associate degree or technical certification in a related field
  • GibbsCAM experience
  • Solid Edge experience
  • Simulation tool experience for casting process improvement
  • Experience optimizing gating, riser configurations, and material flow
  • Experience reducing material waste and manufacturing defects
  • Experience evaluating in-house versus external fabrication methods
  • Experience inspecting customer-supplied tooling or equipment
  • Experience supporting process optimization in metal casting operations

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and refine tooling layouts for metal casting operations
  • Engineer patterns, core boxes, gating systems, and riser systems for new and existing manufacturing projects
  • Create, update, and maintain engineering models and technical drawings
  • Use modeling software and simulation tools to improve tooling performance
  • Optimize tooling designs to reduce material waste and manufacturing defects
  • Refine gating and riser configurations to improve casting consistency
  • Review product specifications and dimensional requirements
  • Work with internal departments and customers to confirm tooling requirements
  • Support trial runs and tooling validation activities
  • Assess tooling performance and recommend design improvements
  • Review engineering changes that affect tooling designs
  • Implement tooling revisions based on engineering updates
  • Evaluate build methods and determine in-house or external fabrication options based on complexity and cost
  • Manage intake and inspection of customer-supplied tooling or equipment
  • Support technical inspections and tooling preparation for production launch
  • Provide status updates on tooling work, project progress, and potential issues
  • Lead tooling improvement efforts focused on efficiency and waste reduction
  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols and internal operating standards
  • Support additional engineering tasks as required


Pay Details: $80,000.00 to $90,000.00 per year
