Lead mechanical engineering activities for large capital equipment projects from design and procurement through installation, commissioning, startup, and final acceptance.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical education and experience
  • Minimum of three years of mechanical engineering experience preferred
  • Experience supporting capital equipment projects in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks
  • Experience with mechanical design standards, including OSHA, ASME, ANSI, and ISO requirements
  • Experience using Product Lifecycle Management or document management systems
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, piping, and fittings
  • Experience designing or specifying lifting devices, cranes, jibs, below-the-hook devices, and end effectors
  • Knowledge of motor and reducer sizing and selection
  • Experience developing machine specifications, layouts, assemblies, schematics, and bills of materials
  • Experience managing equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, and startup
  • Experience developing project estimates and technical schedules
  • Experience creating installation plans, risk assessments, and equipment acceptance criteria
  • Experience managing internal and external contractors
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Ability to travel approximately 5%, including domestic and occasional international travel
  • Ability to support plant shutdowns, equipment installations, and startups during weekends or holidays as required

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering design for capital equipment projects
  • Develop machine specifications, equipment sizing, and component selection
  • Create mechanical part, assembly, schematic, and layout drawings
  • Develop bills of materials and complete machine documentation packages
  • Apply applicable mechanical design standards to equipment designs
  • Prepare budget estimates and bid packages
  • Develop technical offers, safety risk assessments, maintenance documentation, operator training materials, and user manuals
  • Facilitate procurement of equipment and materials
  • Develop equipment specifications for RFQ and purchase activities
  • Track supplier fabrication progress and equipment delivery
  • Perform equipment acceptance inspections
  • Manage correction of equipment nonconformities before final acceptance
  • Develop detailed installation plans, including risk assessments, timelines, and installation sequences
  • Manage mechanical contractors and maintenance installation teams
  • Coordinate equipment modifications and machine installations
  • Support commissioning, startup, qualification, and production ramp-up
  • Develop engineering estimates covering equipment, installation labor, design, startup support, and travel
  • Maintain project schedules covering design, procurement, installation, startup, and qualification
  • Track project costs against engineering estimates
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables across project disciplines
  • Support equipment safety and ergonomic risk assessments
  • Organize onsite equipment reception and installation activities
  • Manage receiving-plant acceptance criteria for new equipment
  • Provide technical support and training to plant maintenance teams
  • Support major capital projects and equipment modifications from initial study through final acceptance


Pay Details: $45.00 to $53.00 per hour
