Project Automation Engineer
Execute electrical and automation portions of capital projects from design and procurement through equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and plant acceptance.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
- Two to four years of engineering experience preferred
- Capital project experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Experience with Siemens PLC programming standards and software
- Experience programming with GRAFCET, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text
- Experience developing electrical and controls system designs
- Experience using standard CAD design tools
- Experience with variable frequency drives and motion control systems
- Experience developing HMIs
- Experience configuring and programming industrial controls systems
- Knowledge of industrial network interfaces and device communication protocols
- Experience coordinating equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, and startup
- Experience managing project schedules, engineering estimates, and project costs
- Experience organizing onsite equipment reception and installation
- Experience managing equipment ramp-up and customer acceptance criteria
- Ability to work plant shutdowns, including weekends and holidays, as required
- Ability to travel approximately 5%, including domestic and occasional international travel

- SEE Electrical experience
- Siemens HMI experience
- Control Techniques VFD or motion control experience
- Fanuc robotics experience
- Experience with robotic system configuration
- Project management or project leadership experience
- Experience with process equipment in mixing, calendering, material preparation, or related manufacturing areas
- Experience with equipment safety and ergonomic risk assessments
- Experience managing supplier equipment acceptance activities
Job Responsibilities
- Provide detailed electrical design and automation programming for capital projects
- Develop Siemens PLC programs using GRAFCET, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text
- Develop controls system designs, electrical drawings, and automation documentation
- Create engineering estimates for equipment, installation labor, design, startup, and travel
- Develop and maintain project schedules covering design, procurement, installation, startup, and qualification
- Track project costs and actual spending against engineering estimates
- Develop equipment specifications for RFQ and procurement activities
- Support purchase order development and supplier coordination
- Track supplier fabrication progress and equipment delivery
- Manage equipment acceptance activities at supplier facilities
- Coordinate engineering deliverables across project team disciplines
- Organize onsite equipment reception, installation, commissioning, startup, and production ramp-up
- Manage receiving-plant acceptance criteria for new equipment
- Support equipment safety and ergonomic risk assessments
- Configure and integrate VFDs, motion control systems, HMIs, and industrial network interfaces
- Support controls communications between equipment, devices, and computer system databases
- Provide backup support and training to plant maintenance teams for newly implemented automation systems
- Support capital equipment modifications, replacements, and upgrades from initial study through final acceptance
- Provide engineering support during plant shutdowns and scheduled startup activities
Pay Details: $40.00 to $60.00 per hour
