Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Associate degree in Automation Technology, Robotics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field may be considered
  • At least 1 year of controls design or controls engineering experience
  • Experience designing controls for new automated machinery and equipment
  • Experience developing PLC programs using Studio 5000 Logix Designer
  • Experience designing control panels, cabling systems, and conduit routing
  • Experience defining control-system hardware specifications
  • Experience developing electrical schematics and control-system documentation
  • Ability to travel within the continental United States for machine commissioning
  • Experience gathering customer requirements and developing project work breakdowns, cost estimates, and schedules

Preferred Skills

  • 2–4 years of controls engineering experience
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs
  • Experience with Siemens PLCs
  • HMI programming experience using FactoryTalk, Wonderware, or CIMPLICITY
  • Experience integrating servo drives, variable-frequency drives, and stepper drives
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks, Creo, or Zuken E3
  • Experience developing bills of materials and supporting ERP routing requirements
  • Experience with robot simulation and offline programming tools such as Process Simulate, ROBOGUIDE, or DELMIA
  • Experience integrating robotic applications and vision systems
  • Experience with welding automation
  • Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, or other fluid-power components
  • Experience working for an automation equipment integrator or machine builder
  • Experience designing tabletop assembly stations, automated assembly systems, inspection gauges, pick-and-place equipment, packaging systems, or web-handling machinery

Job Responsibilities

  • Design controls, software, and data-acquisition systems for automated equipment
  • Develop control-system architectures for new machinery and production systems
  • Program PLCs using Studio 5000 Logix Designer
  • Develop HMI applications and operator interfaces
  • Design control panels, electrical schematics, cable layouts, and conduit routing
  • Select PLCs, controls hardware, sensors, drives, safety devices, and electrical components
  • Develop bills of materials and equipment specifications
  • Integrate servo, variable-frequency, and stepper-drive systems
  • Integrate robotic systems, vision equipment, inspection devices, and fluid-power components
  • Develop controls for assembly stations, automated assembly equipment, gauges, pick-and-place systems, packaging equipment, and web-handling machinery
  • Test and debug control-system hardware and software
  • Perform machine startup, installation, and commissioning at customer facilities
  • Gather technical and operational requirements during customer site visits
  • Develop project plans, work breakdown structures, cost estimates, and schedules
  • Prepare technical proposals and controls-system documentation
  • Track project status, technical issues, scope changes, and commissioning results
  • Support system validation, customer acceptance testing, and production launch


Pay Details: $30.00 to $58.00 per hour
