Job Description:
Our customer is looking for a Microbiologist (Histotech) to do preparation of microscope slides to enable the pathologist to render a quality diagnosis.

 
MUST have experience with histology and anatomic pathology
Experience handling small biopsy specimens
3+ years experience with: accessioning, processing and embedding.
 
Requirements:
AA, AS or BS degree from a regionally accredited college/university, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required
•Must satisfy CLIA regulations to perform high complexity testing
•HT(ASCP) certification is required within 18 months of beginning employment in the state of Georgia
•HTL (ASCP) certification, preferred

Job Duties:
•Accessionsurgical pathology specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
•Properly label Specimens components (jars, cassettes, slides, etc.) in accordance to laboratory procedures.
This position is tasked with the preparation of microscope slides to enable the pathologist to render a quality diagnosis.
•Accession surgical pathology specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
•Properly label Specimens components (jars, cassettes, slides, etc.) in accordance to laboratory procedures.
•Embed formalin fixed tissues in accordance to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) tissue orientation protocols
•Perform microtomy of formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) in accordance to SOP protocols.
•Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of instruments and document findings
•Maintains a clean working environment
•Maintains working inventory required for tissue sectioning of FFPE blocks
•Prepare reagents, including stains solutions, graded alcohols and bulk reagents according to proper specifications
•Perform more complex procedures for processing and staining tissues, including special stains (SS), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and other special projects as assigned
•Print slides using the slide printer
Ensure that all stained slides are distributed to pathologists in an efficient and timely manner
•Perform and document all equipment quality control and preventive maintenance
•Support Histology Management by communication supply needs. Document receipt of supplies and the date reagents are put in use
•Practice good documentation practice
•Maintain filing systems to include specimen, FFPE tissue blocks, prepared slides and related documents
•Enforce proper chemical and biological hygiene practices to ensure a safe and compliant working environment
•Perform chemical hazardous waste disposal in accordance to regulatory guidelines
