Job Description:
***The individual for this role must have experience working with harnesses and or cable assemblies. ***
Job Summary:
Determine feasibility and create processes to build new harnesses and cable assemblies.  Build samples and prototypes, and transition new business to Manufacturing.  
Scope of Responsibility:
Works with Project Engineering to develop and build new harnesses and cable assemblies based on specifications provided.  Build samples, prototypes, and create manufacturing process/work instructions.  Work with the Manufacturing Technician to transition the new harness and cable assembly orders to Production based on the new processes and instructions created.   
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Evaluate new product development and sample requests for harnesses and cable assemblies, including building the samples and prototype parts.  
2. Find and implement potential changes for improved efficiency and cost savings.  This includes working with Project Engineering, Manufacturing Technicians, and Product Management.
3. Document or update processes based on the first time build.  
4. Work with Project Engineering for feasibility challenges, and identify solutions.
5. Document appropriate tooling for harnesses and cable assemblies.  Suggest fixtures where needed.  Evaluate automated processes and tools where applicable.
6. Develop work instructions for production.  Involves working closely with the Manufacturing Technician to ensure appropriate process is defined.  This may also include marking up existing manufacturing drawings and submitting to Drafting for updates.
7. Work with Project Engineers to update Bill of Materials as needed for design changes due to feasibility and process adjustments identified during the prototype phase.  
8. Perform time studies for new item development, sample and production related projects.
9. Occasionally author Engineering Change Orders.  This would include detailing the aspects of why an Engineering Change Order is needed and determining the course of action for related products and communicating these tasks to all necessary groups.
10. Occasionally work with Research and Development Engineering to evaluate feasibility of design and tooling for new project related items.  
11. Work closely with suppliers as required to trouble shoot quality issues resulting from tooling that may not be producing acceptable results.
12. Operate the basic functions of equipment used for harness and cable assembly manufacturing.  Ability to run automated and semi-automated machines (Wire Cutting Machines, Crimping Machines, Braiding Machine, etc.).
13. Communicate continuous improvement ideas that are identified as possible process improvements.  
14. Follow safety rules and keep work areas in a clean and orderly condition through practicing the 5’s.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two year technical degree and three years of experience working with harnesses and/or cable assemblies.  A strong understanding of electronics and mechanical design.  Must be able to work with Outlook and other computer related business programs.  Communication skills are critical working with various teams, from concept into production.  An understanding of AutoCAD is a plus.  Understanding of connectors (and connector assembly) is a must.
