Job Description:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Operates boiler and makes changes in operation as required to ensure operations conform to ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and NBIC (National Board Inspection Standards).
• Monitor boiler and all gages to ensure optimum safe operation.
• Must be able to effectively communicate and explain the use and meaning of all gages related to the boiler operation.
• Explains actions to taken in the3 event of an emergency or shutdown.
• Maintains workstation in a clean and safe manner.
• Performs minor maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Work overtime as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Occasionally exposed to confined spaces, steam and wet, humid, cold or extreme heat environments. Job tasks are occasionally performed at high elevations, on uneven surfaces and under severe loud noise conditions (above 85db) in which fall and hearing protection are required. Exposure to vibration (power tools) and non -ionizing radiation (welding) require anti-vibration gloves and welding shields/curtains. Must be able to drive man lifts and lift equipment. Exposure to moving equipment requires lockout procedures.
 
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have a High School diploma or GED certificate.
• State of MN 1st Class “B” boiler license or higher; for 3 years or more, must meet the state licensing requirements for the applicable state of operation.
• Min of 5 years of boiler operator experience is required.
• Must meet the state licensing requirements for the state on which you will operate.
ADDITINALLY THIS POSITION REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING:
• Knowledge and understanding of steam and its characteristics.
• Knowledge and understanding of all phases of boiler operation including steam, water levels and quality, pressure valves and piping.
• Ability to give work direction to boiler house crew.
• Individual must be medically evaluated, fit tested and trained to use SCBA’s in an emergency to safely shut down critical operations.
• Must be able to reference, read and understand how to use MSDS information.
• Must be able to perform the duties of Boilerhouse Fireman.
PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to carry 75 pounds occasionally (lifting more than 75 pounds requires assistance). Bending and twisting is done frequently while squatting and kneeling is done occasionally, stair climbing and ladder climbing is required. Wrist position deviates from neutral position frequently as does repetitive hand/wrist motion and use of hand tools. Occasionally push or pull on carts, chains, pulleys, and comealongs. Manual dexterity needed with frequent motor movement. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety procedures and MSDS information, detailed blueprints, operation and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
